ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE NOW:
BACK
1. Reduce your green house gas emissions.
The most effective ways of doing this are:
Decrease your use of electricity from coal (or other fossil fuel) fired power plants. You can effectively do this by using conservation and green energy.
Take the “Electric
Energy Challenge”
Decrease
your transportation emissions from the burning of gasoline.
Recycle.
Reduce
your purchase of products that require energy inputs to manufacture or
transport. For example, use reusable products instead of throw-aways.
Decrease
the amount of red meat you eat.
Sign
up with your electric utility for their green energy program.
Buy carbon offsets. They can be either in the form of tree plantings in the tropics, or the addition green electricity to the grid.
Read our
Green Tips, Public Education, and Clean Energy Initiative sections for specific
information and ideas.

for more information on greenhouse gas emissions.)
2. Join Healthy Planet Initiatives.
We
encourage people to get on our e-mail list. You will receive an e-mail
newsletter usually not more than once a week. The letter is formatted so
that it is easy to read only the sections that interest you.
Consider
attending our meetings. (Meeting information and e-mail address is on the
Healthy Planet Initiatives home page.) Generally we have a potluck meeting every
other month on a Sunday evening, and a regular meeting on alternate months on a
Monday evening at the United Way in Danville.
There is no fee to join.
You can also volunteer to help with small group efforts, or even volunteer from
home!
3. Work for environmentally sound legislation.
This may mean contacting your public officials, or helping a candidate’s
election bid.
4.Join a National Environmental Organization.
The more members
they
have, the more clout these organizations have in national and state
government. They advocate for environmentally important laws, and
help ensure that these laws are followed. See links listed on this
site for some recommended organizations.
