Energy Star washers are star performers!

An EPA Energy Star rated clothes washer can save you a lot of money over time,

$550, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

When the time comes to buy a new washer, choose an Energy Star rated model.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, “an ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer can save you $550 in operating costs over its lifetime compared to a regular clothes washer.” Of course, the average savings will only increase as energy costs go up. The National Geographic Green Guide estimates that an Energy Star clothes washer will save you $95 per year.
“ENERGY STAR qualified washers are also better for the environment because lowering energy and water use means less air pollution from power plants and less water going to waste,” according to the EPA.
An ENERGY STAR qualified washers can save 7,000 gallons of water a year. "On average, conventional washers are the second-largest water users in the home after toilets, consuming 40 gallons per load, whereas Energy Star-rated appliances use between 18 to 25 gallons, with some using even less,” according to National Geographic Green Guide.
The new Energy Star front loading models need the least amount of water since they toss the clothes through the water, rather than having the whole washer drum full of water.
Front loading models also cause less wear and tear on clothes, and tend to get them cleaner.
Energy Star washers remove more water from the clothes, reducing the dryer time needed. Both the efficiency of the Energy Star washer, and the reduced need for dryer time saves electricity.
Using less electricity usually means that you are cause less greenhouse gas pollution from coal fired power plants.
